The Foreign Trade Research Institute presents, for public debate, a new edition of its report on Poland’s economy and foreign trade. It covers the period of eighteen months when a historical event – Poland’s accession to the European Union – took place. The report is a follow-on from “Polish Foreign Trade” published annually by the Institute since 1971. It contains a set of individual essays of the FTRI employees and invited experts, simultaneously being complementary to the FTRI report on the “Economic Policy of Poland in the Integrating Europe 2004-2005”, presented in June. As its complement and elaboration, the report provides a comprehensive analysis of the macro- and microeconomic situation of our country, with a particular focus on the current state and prospects of foreign trade. Traditionally, much attention has been given to the explanation of a robust growth in Polish foreign trade turnover in the context of the external and domestic economic situation as well as the economic and financial standing of enterprises. Furthermore, the report contains a forecast of Poland’s main economic indicators, including foreign trade flows. There are indications that the nearest months will witness a slowdown in the growth rate of the Polish economy, partly due to increased political uncertainty, errors in the macroeconomic policy and insufficient take-up of the EU structural resources. |
